We have designed food policy governance for the futureJakarta (ANTARA) - The National Food Agency (NFA) will simplify food-management regulations that fall under its authority by drafting Indonesia's food policy governance.
"We have designed food policy governance for the future, and the point is that the National Food Agency will optimize the role of (state-owned logistics firm) Bulog and food State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) as operators," NFA's Acting Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilization Risfaheri noted during a webinar on optimizing the agency's role here on Thursday.
According to Risfaheri, the NFA always coordinates with the Ministry of SOEs.
Risfaheri remarked that with the authority bestowed on NFA related to agriculture and food from the Trade and Agriculture Ministries, he believes that food governance will be more flexible and faster to handle.
"Of course, we have prepared the regulation, so in future, the problems in Bulog will be easier to solve as it is in one agency. Hopefully, through the National Food Agency, the problems that have slowed down Bulog can be eliminated," Risfaheri remarked.
Furthermore, Risfaheri opined that the NFA still needs transition time to fully act. Although Presidential Regulation No. 66 of 2021 on the NFA has been established in July 2021, the inauguration of the NFA Head was recently held in February 2022.
"It has been about two and a half months. Of course, there are some preparations, such as regulations, coordination with the relevant ministries, and authority bestowal, and these need to be communicated," he stated.
He said the process of transferring authority to the NFA will be completed in the near future.
Earlier, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had inaugurated Arief Prasetyo Adi as the NFA head at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (February 21, 2022).
According to the Presidential Decree signed on July 29, 2021, the NFA was tasked with government duties in the food affairs or sector.
