Iskandar delivered the statement during a webinar on ‘Digital Media: Efforts to Strengthen the Character of the Nation and Defend the State,’ conducted by the Directorate General of Information and Public Communication at the Communications and Informatics Ministry, which was accessed from here on Friday.
He listed methods that could be taken by Muslims, even people in general, to improve the quality of the society, nation, and state.
They include strengthening the basics of nationalism and exploring nationality in a productive and creative way, particularly on social media platforms.
People must not fully rely on the state to instill nationalism, he said. However, the government needs to remember that it must facilitate it by preparing the necessary and relevant infrastructure, he opined.
By offering adequate infrastructure, the ideas and creations of national digital creators or social media activists can develop well, thereby encouraging them to spread the spirit of nationalism, in accordance with the current era, he said.
In the midst of the digital era, citizens must truly become a unifying force for the nation by utilizing social media and virtual spaces to foster the spirit of togetherness and mutual cooperation, which can later be applied in real-life practices, he remarked.
He also reminded Indonesians to be grateful to the soldiers guarding the borders.
"We must thank the (troops) who are now guarding the border in the South China Sea or at the Papua border. These are heroes who (function as protectors) so that we can conduct various activities calmly, both economic activities, worship, as well as nation and state. These borders are guarded so that we do not become a nation that is easily destroyed," said Muhaimin.
