"The peak of the dry season in Papua Province in 2022 is estimated to occur from June to August," Hendro Nugroho, head of BMKG Region V Jayapura, noted here on Saturday.
According to Nugroho, the BMKG has forecast the current dry season conditions to be normal or equal to the climatological average for all season zones.
"This is because the nature of the rain is normal when compared to the accumulation during the dry rainy season for the 1991-2020 period," he pointed out.

He explained that the Australian monsoon will be active at the end of April 2022 and will begin to dominate in May to August 2022, so the BMKG is optimistic that the public remains alert, especially in areas that enter the dry season early.
"We urge the public to remain vigilant during the dry season, especially the people in areas experiencing a scarcity of clean water," he stated.
He expressed hope that the local governments and communities in areas prone to facing a shortage of clean water would store water during the transition from the rainy to the dry season.
"In addition, during the transition period or the transition period from the rainy season to the dry season, the public also needs to be aware of the likelihood of strong winds and heavy rains accompanied by lightning," he stated.
