Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government strongly denounced Israeli security forces' violence against Palestinians at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Friday that claimed lives and caused injuries.

"The violence against the civilians cannot be justified and must be stopped soon. Moreover, it occurred in a place of worship, Al-Aqsa Mosque, in the holy month of Ramadhan," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry noted on its official Twitter account on Saturday.

On Thursday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas appealed to the world to protect the Palestinian people amid the escalation of tensions in the West Bank, according to Xinhua.

The Palestinian official news agency WAFA reported that Abbas made the request while holding a meeting with the special representative of the European Union for Middle East peace process Sven Koopmans.

According to a report, Abbas assessed Israel's subsequent attack on the Palestinian people and described as "unstoppable" the escalation of the ongoing tension.

Tensions flared up between Israel and Palestine in the West Bank and East Jerusalem over the past three weeks, especially during the holy month of Ramadhan.

On Monday (April 11), Palestinian presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh warned that the movement of Israel in the Palestinian territory will lead to an "uncontrollable situation".
