Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) respects the US Department of State's latest Country Reports on Human Rights Practices on Indonesia that includes remarks on the national anti-corruption agency, a commission official stated.

The report highlighted issues on the civic knowledge test that resulted in the dismissal of 57 KPK employees last year and the alleged ethics violation perpetrated by KPK Deputy Chairperson Lili Pintauli Siregar.

"In principle, we respect the assessment result. The report revealed that corruption eradication is a global issue that needs attention and cooperation with all relevant parties, not only stakeholders at the domestic level but also at the global level," KPK acting spokesperson Ali Fikri noted in his remarks here on Monday.

Fikri explained that the KPK, as the national anti-graft institution, is active in various international forums on the drafting of anti-corruption policies and education, information and data exchange, and cross-jurisdiction corruption investigations.

The KPK has also shared its experiences on eradicating corruption in Indonesia and its best practices, either in the education, prevention, and enforcement aspects, the acting spokesperson noted.

"The KPK is also open to best practices that are suggested by foreign institutions to be adopted in the corruption eradication efforts in Indonesia," Fikri affirmed.

Indonesia has also benefited from international cooperation to boost corruption investigations and asset recovery efforts, he stated.

"Apart from the performance issue, institutional issues are often discussed by parties as a learning and discussion medium. For instance, the employment status change and enforcement of ethics in the KPK (have been discussed)," the acting spokesperson remarked.

Fikri noted that all issues regarding the civic knowledge test last year had been settled, as its legality was affirmed by the Supreme Court, Constitutional Court, and Public Information Commission.

The KPK's Supervisory Board had also issued an ethics code that will serve as the basis to ensure that the professionalism and independence of KPK officers are maintained, he emphasized while adding that the Board had sanctioned officers proven to have violated the KPK ethics code.

"We are convinced that these discourses will bolster anti-corruption measures and greatly benefit the people," Fikri remarked.
