Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria was thankful that various flood control measures devised by the provincial authority had resulted in no major floods in Jakarta in 2022.

"We are thankful that we experienced no major floods this year, unlike the previous years. As of April 19, Jakarta experienced no major floods," Patria stated at the Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.

The deputy governor pointed out that various flood control measures devised by the authority, including the development of new dams, reservoirs, pump polders, and infiltration wells, had yielded results this year.

"(The lack of floods) means that we have been working properly to control the flooding. We hope there will be no floods until the end of April," he remarked.

Regarding a flood in residential areas in Kebon Pala, East Jakarta, Patria noted that the authority had dispatched flood control teams to handle the flooding.

"The authority continues to make efforts to control the floods and ensure that the floodwaters recede sooner," the deputy governor noted.

Meanwhile, according to the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency's Data and Information Centre, as of Tuesday at 9 a.m. local time (UTC +7), flooding was reported in 29 neighbourhood units (RT) out of the 30,470 neighbourhood units in the province.

The agency reported that flooding occurred in three regions in East and South Jakarta.

A flood that occurred due to the overflowing of River Ciliwung inundated 28 neighbourhood units in East Jakarta, comprising nine RTs in the Cawang region and 19 RTs in the Kampung Melayu region.

Another flood in a neighbourhood unit in the Rawajati region, South Jakarta, also occurred due to the overflowing of River Ciliwung.

Despite the floodwaters of varied depths of 50-130 centimetres being recorded in the inundated neighbourhood units, no residents are relocating away from their dwellings.
