Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar, has called for efforts to minimize and reduce waste during the 2022 Eid exodus period.

"The Ministry of Environment and Forestry encourages people's behavior on waste, which starts from minimal waste efforts during exodus or Eid holidays," she said while inspecting Senen Station and Tanjung Priok Port, here on Tuesday.

Bakar's visits to the station and port were within the framework of waste management that ends at the landfill (TPA), according to a statement issued by the ministry.

Meanwhile, the ministry has issued Circular Letter No. SE.3 / MENLHK / PSLB3 / PLB.0 / 4/2022 concerning waste management during Eid exodus, which aims to strengthen the commitment and role of local governments in implementing waste reduction and handling to reduce the dumping of waste in landfills.

The circular is also intended to increase public participation in waste management endeavors by minimizing waste during the exodus period.

During her visit to Senen Station and Tanjung Priok Port, Bakar reviewed the readiness of waste management, especially during homecoming activities, and ensured the preparedness of local governments for carrying out maximum waste management efforts.

She said that the ministry wants to ensure the readiness of public facilities to anticipate the impact of waste dumping during the Eid holidays.

During her inspection, Bakar handed over assistance in the form of sorted trash cans. She also asked the station manager to provide waste facilities and infrastructure, including public socialization.

The ministry's campaign, with the motto "Mudik Minim Sampah" or "Exodus with Minimum Waste,” is aiming to encourage people to care about reducing waste, especially during this year's Eid exodus activities, she informed.
