"Everyone in Indonesia should continuously make the most of the presence of various research infrastructures and superior human resources at the National Research and Innovation Agency. At the same time, this will be able to drive up Indonesia's position in the midst of the global (scope) and at the same time be able to advance Indonesia's ability to compete economically in the future," Handoko noted during a virtual commemoration of the anniversary of BRIN, hosted here on Thursday.
Presidential Regulation Number 33 of 2021, launched on April 28, 2021, became the basis for the formation of the agency. Thereafter, a revision of the regulation replaced its predecessor, the amendment being Presidential Regulation Number 78 of 2021 on BRIN.
Establishment of the BRIN was expected to increase research and innovation productivity, thereby boosting national competitiveness in the midst of global competition.
"The challenges will be even greater, in line with the increasing number of responsibilities and expectations for the agency, such as how the BRIN can increase research and innovation productivity to enhance the competitiveness of the Indonesian nation in the midst of global competition," he remarked.
Handoko noted that during the first anniversary, the agency must be able to interact with all types of people, including academics, industry, researchers, and also individuals. Hence, the agency would continue to pursue research collaborations with both domestic and foreign communities.

The BRIN has built one of the newest research facilities to support halal food research in Indonesia in Playen Sub-district, Gunung Kidul District, Yogyakarta Province. It was officiated by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin on April 22, 2022, as a reference laboratory for halal research in Indonesia.
Handoko noted that all research facilities and infrastructure currently under the agency's management were prepared for collective use and became one of the main bases to pursue collaboration with the stakeholders.
The use of infrastructure, which was an open platform in nature, was the agency's fundamental strategy to develop research and innovation in Indonesia, in which the agency functioned as the main facilitator and enabler.
