Railway continues to be the preferred mean of transportation in the yearly Eid al-Fitr exodus
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian railway management company PT KAI has recorded 100-percent sales of railway tickets ahead of the Eid al-Fitr day.

"Railway continues to be the preferred mean of transportation in the yearly Eid al-Fitr exodus," said vice president for public relations of PT KAI, Joni Martinus, in a statement on Saturday.



He informed that for departures from Pasar Senen Station from April 26 to May 1, 2022, ticket sales have reached 100 percent.



For the period, an average of 21,140 passengers and an average of 28 train trips have been recorded per day.

Generally, the occupancy rate for long-distance railway trips to various destinations between April 28 to 30 has been pegged at 99 percent, with a total of 361,631 passengers.



"The highest volume leading to the Eid al-Fitr day thus far was the departure on April 29, or three days before the D day, with 126,398 passengers, at the occupancy rate of 104 percent," he said, adding that the most popular routes include from Jakarta to Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, and Jogjakarta.

Anticipating a rise in passenger volumes, the company decided to operate 214 railway trips on D-3, indicating a 5-percent increase compared to operations on D-10, when the company operated 204 trips.



The seating capacity was also increased by 6 percent to 121, 759 seats.



Aside from adding capacity, the company also set up service posts and implemented extra security measures, both internally and externally.
