A liveable, comfortable, and healthy housing will provide safety and amenities for its residents.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Hundreds of special housing units for communities affected by the tropical cyclone Seroja in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province established by the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry are ready to be occupied.

The ministry's Director General for Housing Iwan Suprijanto noted in a statement here on Tuesday that his side had handed over the keys of the houses to the beneficiaries on April 9, 2022, exactly a year after President Joko Widodo’s visit to Amakaka Village, Ile Ape Sub-district, Lembata District, and Nelelamadike Village, Ile Boleng Sub-district, East Flores District, NTT Province.

The local government and the beneficiary communities are expected to maintain the sustainability and hygiene of the new residential areas.

Hence, to ensure that the surroundings of the housing are beautiful and comfortable, the community members are suggested to conduct reforestation.

"A livable, comfortable, and healthy housing will provide safety and amenities for its residents," the director general remarked.

Suprijanto noted that the permanent housing assistance was a concrete manifestation of the government's commitment to helping the people affected by the disaster.

Each house was built as a type 36 building, with an area of 108 square meters, and has been equipped with communal sanitation facility, clean water network, and electricity grid.

There are also public roads and a community hall at the housing complex.

The ministry constructed 700 houses at three sites in Lembata District, comprising 173 units in the Waisesa area, 294 units in the Tanah Merah area, and 233 units in the Podu area.

Meanwhile, in East Flores District, 300 units were built at three locations, with 50 units in the Oyang Barang area; 195 units in the Saosina area; and 55 units in the Nelelamadike area.

“The budget for the establishment of permanent housing in Lembata District reached Rp141.667 billion (US$9.78 million), while the budget used for the construction in East Flores District reached Rp68.58 billion (US$4.73 million)," Suprijanto added.
