Jakarta (ANTARA) - State aircraft navigation provider AirNav Indonesia received reports of wild hot air balloons at up to 35,000 feet or 10,600 meters above sea level above Java island and its surroundings on Eid (Monday).

The reports were received from pilots and the public, AirNav Indonesia Corporate Secretary Rosedi stated here on Tuesday.

"AirNav has mapped the distribution area of wild air balloons based on incoming reports and issued several Notices To Airmen (NOTAM)," Rosedi noted.

Rosedi detailed the reports all in WIB or Western Indonesian Standard Time:

a. 7 a.m.: Three balloons to the west of SRONO point, at an altitude of 7,000 feet, reported by Batik Air pilot on the Jakarta - Banyuwangi route,

b. 8 a.m.: One balloon in the Magelang area, at an altitude of 2,500 - 3,000 feet, that continued to fly up (as per a resident's report),

c. 8:34 a.m.: One balloon in the northeast of Surabaya City, at an altitude of 31,000 - 32,000 feet, reported by Citilink pilot on the Banyuwangi - Jakarta route,

d. 8:56 a.m.: Three balloons to the west of Yogyakarta City, at an altitude of 10,000 - 21,000 feet, reported by Citilink pilot on the Yogyakarta - Jakarta route,

e. 9:03 a.m.: One balloon to the west of Yogyakarta City, at an altitude of 15,000 feet, reported by Super Air Jet pilot on the Yogyakarta - Jakarta route,

f. 9:40 a.m.: A collection of balloons (around 20 - 25 pieces) west of Semarang City, at an altitude of 14,000 - 17,000 feet, reported by Citilink pilot on the Jakarta - Semarang route,

g. 11:45 a.m.: One balloon on Mount Semeru, at an altitude of 35,000 feet (reported by Air Asia pilot on the Jakarta - Bali route), and

h. 12:26 p.m.: Five balloons to the west of Yogyakarta City, at an altitude of 9,000 feet (reported by Lion Air pilot on the Jakarta - Yogyakarta route).

The issued NOTAM:

a. A1024/22 (April 29 - May 21, 2022): All Traffic Within Semarang Control Area are Advised Caution due to Balloon Appearance. Remark: All Pilots are Requested to Inform ATC if they See the Balloons Within Semarang Control Area,

b. A1046/22 (May 2 - May 5, 2022): All Pilots are Requested to Inform ATC if they See the Balloons, and

c. A1047/22 (May 2 - May 10, 2022): All Traffic are Advised Caution due to Balloon Appearance Centered at Coordinates 074102.00S1093937.00E Within 25NM Radius. Remark: All Pilots are Requested to Inform ATC if they See the Balloons.
