Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned aviation navigation services provider AirNav Indonesia has reported that flight traffic during the 2023 Eid al-Fitr homecoming period increased by 20 percent compared to 2022.

AirNav served 43,234 flights and added 2,509 extra flights during the period.

"Data collected by AirNav from D-9 of Eid to the D-Day of Eid in 2023 showed a 20 percent increase in flight traffic as compared to the 2022 period," AirNav President Director Polana B. Pramesti noted in a statement on Wednesday.

The data was collected from the total traffic monitored through AirNav's 51 integrated service posts, she said.

To support the 2023 Eid homecoming, AirNav Indonesia has prepared support for flight navigation services, including through the preparation of procedures and personnel, the readiness of flight navigation facilities, and providing support for handling additional airport capacity.

AirNav has also supported emergency procedures, such as volcanic ash handling, support for digital weather information applications (nav earth), and hot air balloon disturbance handling procedures on the busiest routes, such as Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya.

"We have also synergized with airlines through pilot reports (PIREP), local government, and the local police as well," she revealed.

AirNav Indonesia is also preparing navigation services for the Eid return flow, she stated.

"We estimate that the peak of the homecoming return flow will take place on April 29-30, 2023. However, the movement of return flow has started on D+1, specifically on April 23, 2023," she remarked.

On D+1 of Eid, AirNav Indonesia had served 3,099 flights, an increase of six percent compared to the 2022 period.

Pramesti emphasized that AirNav Indonesia will remain at the forefront in providing flight safety services in Indonesia, prioritizing flight safety and comfort in the Indonesian airspace.
