People who travel on the south coast of West Java, the south coast of Central Java, and the south coast of Yogyakarta are advised against bathing or swimming on the beach.
Cilacap, Central Java (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has urged people on vacation in West Java, Central Java, and Yogyakarta to remain alert for high waves along the southern coast.

"Currently, the southern waters of West Java to Yogyakarta and the southern Indian Ocean of West Java to Yogyakarta are (experiencing) the easterly wind season," head of the BMKG Technician Unit at the Cilacap Tunggul Wulung Meteorological Station, Teguh Wardoyo, said in Cilacap, Central Java, on Tuesday.

Thus, the wind movement pattern in the southern waters of West Java to Yogyakarta is predominantly from south to southeast, with speeds ranging from 8 to 25 knots.

The wind movement, which tends to be high speed, has affected the height of waves along the southern waters of West Java to Yogyakarta and the southern Indian Ocean along West Java to Yogyakarta.

The agency had issued an early warning on May 3 of high waves in those areas, he said. The warning is valid until May 4 and will be updated in accordance with the changes in conditions.

As per the early warning, waves measuring 2.5–4 meters in height, which are categorized as high waves, are likely in the southern waters of Sukabumi, Cianjur, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Pangandaran, Cilacap, Kebumen, Purworejo, and Yogyakarta.

They are also likely to affect the Indian Ocean south of Sukabumi, Cianjur, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Pangandaran, Cilacap, Kebumen, Purworejo, and Yogyakarta.

"People who travel on the south coast of West Java, the south coast of Central Java, and the south coast of Yogyakarta are advised against bathing or swimming on the beach, especially coastal areas, which (experience the) direct (impact) of the high seas, to avoid high waves that can occur at any time," Wardoyo cautioned.
