Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of people traveling by train on the first and second days of Eid remained high, according to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

VP Public Relations at KAI Joni Martninus stated on Wednesday that long-distance train routes were commonly booked on the first and second days of the Eid holidays for the exodus or other matters. He also expressed the company's gratitude to passengers, who had chosen train as a transportation mode for their 2022 Eid celebrations.

Martninus noted that on the first day of Eid, or May 2, 2022, long-distance trains catered to as many as 103,414 passengers, with 85 percent of the occupancy as compared to the total seats provided.

On the second day of Eid, May 3, 2022, long-distance trains had as many as 146,322 passengers, with an occupancy of 120 percent due to dynamic passengers.

Several factors contributing to the passenger numbers on the first and second days of Eid comprised people keen to travel after the Eid prayer in Jakarta, passengers opting to travel on alternative dates, and passengers having the opportunity to partake in the exodus.

A high occupancy rate was recorded for long-distance trains after Eid.

On May 4-8, or D+1 to D+5 of Eid, the average count of daily passengers reached 120,529 people, with an average daily occupancy of 99 percent.

On May 9 to 13, or D+6 to D+10 of the Eid Holidays, vacancy in long-distance trains was still high, as it was capped at 49,794 customers per day on an average, with an average daily occupancy of 41 percent.

He called on everyone to travel by train, as several seats were still available, and people could immediately book them to travel during the ongoing leave days.

Trains, especially during the Eid holiday period, offer several advantages over other land transportation modes, such as no traffic jams, punctuality, greater comfort and safety, and a reduction in the number of accidents on the highway.

The company had set the Eid exodus period, from D-10 to D+10 of Eid, or April 22 to May 13, 2022. As of May 4, KAI had sold 2,051,841 long-distance train tickets, or 78 percent of the total available tickets, he revealed.

For the H-10 period until the second day of the Eid holidays, KAI had served 1,200,224 passengers, or an average of 100,019 passengers per day, with an average occupancy rate at 84 percent.
