Simpang Empat, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - Three tourist destinations in West Pasaman District, West Sumatra, are holding arts and cultural festivals during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

"The three tourist destinations are Muaro Sasak, Maligi Beach, and Sikabau Beach," head of the West Pasaman Tourism Office, Decky H. Sahputra, said here on Wednesday.

The events are aimed at preserving existing arts and culture.

On Barangin Maligi Beach, a festival themed "Maligi Batagak" has been organized from May 3 to 8, 2022.

"The festival is highlighted with an MSME exhibition, gymnastics, and Minang singing competitions," Sahputra informed.

Various activities are also being held on Muaro Sasak Beach, including a "karuang basiba" competition, a traditional dance parade, a modern creation dance parade, and a Minang singing competition.

"This activity will start tomorrow, Thursday (May 5), and is being organized by the Khatulistiwa Tourism Awareness Group with the Tourism Office," he said.

The art and cultural festival on Sikabau Beach, Parit Koto Balingka sub-district, began on Tuesday.

The festivals have been organized to celebrate the Eid holiday and entertain those who have returned home to join the festivities in their hometowns.

"We also want to preserve the existing arts and culture. Hopefully, through these art and culture performances, we can increase our love for the existing local arts and culture," he said.

Indonesian Muslims celebrated the Islamic festival of Eid al-Fitr on May 2, with millions of people leaving big cities and heading to their hometowns to participate in the celebrations.
