The exemption will be valid until May 17. We expect residents whose driving license expired (during the Eid holiday period) to apply for license extension before May 17
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police’s Traffic Corps has confirmed the provision of an exemption for residents whose driving licenses expired during Eid al-Fitr that will allow them to renew their licenses by next Tuesday (May 17, 2022).

"The exemption will be valid until May 17. We expect residents whose driving license expired (during the Eid holiday period) to apply for license extension before May 17," National Police Traffic Corps' director for registration and identification, Brigadier General Yusri Yunus, said here on Tuesday.

All driving license administrative unit offices will prioritize applications for renewal of driving licenses that expired during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period from April 29 to May 8, he informed.

"We have instructed officers at all driving license unit offices to prioritize managing extension applications of driving licenses expiring on April 29 until May 8," he said.

Residents can apply to extend their driving license either by visiting the driving license unit office in their respective region or through the police's driving license mobile application, he added.

Yunus urged residents to utilize the exemption period effectively as applications for driving licenses that expired during the Eid al-Fitr period would be rendered invalid after May 17. Thereafter, people will need to apply for a new driving license, he added.

"We urge (residents) to promptly apply for the license extension, as some eight working days in the May 9–17 period are sufficient (for the process). If they apply for the extension beyond the date then they must apply for a new license from the very first step," he said.

Earlier, in a telegram, National Police chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo had instructed regional police chiefs to allow residents whose driving license expired during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period (April 29 until May 8) to be given an exemption period from May 9–17.

According to Government Regulation No. 6 of 2016, the fee for applying for the extension of a Type A (private car) driving license is Rp80 thousand (US$5.52) and for a Type C (motorcycle) driving license is Rp75 thousand (US$5.17). Applicants are also required to pay Rp25 thousand (US$1.7) for health checks and Rp30 thousand (US$2.07) toward insurance.
