Indonesia strongly denounces the murder of Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh in the (Israel-) occupied West Bank.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Government strongly denounces the reported shooting of Palestinian Al Jazeera journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, by Israeli soldiers, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, Teuku Faizasyah, said on Thursday.

"Indonesia strongly denounces the murder of Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh in the (Israel-) occupied West Bank," he said at a press briefing in Jakarta.

The Foreign Ministry pressed for an investigation into the shooting.

Faizasyah reiterated the importance of seeking an immediate solution to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory.

"As we know, the journalist carried out activities in the Israel-occupied West Bank,” he said.

The Al Jazeera journalist was reportedly shot dead by Israeli troops in West Bank on Wednesday (May 11, 2022).

A Palestinian official told Reuters that Akleh was "murdered" by Israeli soldiers while covering an Israeli military operation in the West Bank city of Jenin on Wednesday.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Thursday the Israeli authorities were to be held fully responsible for the death of the veteran journalist.
