"The presence of digital disruption will reformat much industry and economy," said Erick Thohir in a written statement received here on Sunday.
The minister underlined the fact that seven out of 10 largest companies in the world are technology companies. This signals a major change in the industry that human resources development is currently more valuable than natural resource-based industry.
This offers an opportunity that can be used by young people to be able to compete. As a result of the disruption, many jobs are lost compared to the creation of new jobs.
"This means that there will be a significant change in terms of employment. This needs to be anticipated," said Erick Thohir.
The minister also asked the younger generation not to be passive about the presence of digitalization.
"We have been already facing the first wave with the presence of online media, the second wave with the presence of various applications, and then the third wave with the presence of the metaverse. Don't let all of this just become an arena dominated by foreign products," he said.
Hence, the minister considers that it is appropriate for the younger generation to pursue technology, especially digital one. By mastering digital technology, Minister Thohir is optimistic that Indonesia will be able to compete in the new world economic arena.
Referring to the fact that the majority of Indonesia's population is currently young, the digitalization ability of Indonesian youth will be a major force in responding to technological disruption, since digital disruption will be a great opportunity for Indonesia to become a world economic power in 2045.
"God willing, in 2045 we will continue to grow to become one of the world's major economic powers," said the minister.
