"President Joko Widodo consistently (upholds his) strong commitment to provide protection to workers, both formal and informal," Main Expert Staff at the Presidential Staff Office Abraham Wirotomo noted in a written statement during the symbolic payment of the Employment Social Security (BPJS) claims in Bandung, West Java, on Friday.
The government, through the Presidential Staff Office, Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, and Cabinet Secretariat, continue to promote the Employment Social Security Program for formal and informal workers, Wirotomo noted. They aim to garner participation of 74 percent of formal workers and 25 percent for informal workers in the Employment Social Security Program.
"To meet that target, the Presidential Instruction has tasked the governor and the head of district or mayor to encourage all workers in their area to become participants of the Employment Social Security Program," he remarked.

On the other hand, the West Java Province Employment Social Security Program had paid claims valued at Rp2.4 trillion. The payments were disbursed for 210,805 claims filed during the period from January to April 2022.
One of the beneficiaries' families or heirs is Ida Farida, who received Rp581 million in payment, owing to her husband, Kuswandiana, being a participant of the Employment Social Security Program since 1992.
"(I am) very grateful. It will be used for the children's tuition fees and to start a small staple food business," she stated after symbolically receiving the claim payment from the West Java Province Employment Social Security Program.
