Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - Community-based pentahelix cooperation (locally called gotong royong) has become vital for realizing disaster resilience in Indonesia, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, has said.

"We emphasize the importance of pentahelix collaboration, which includes the cooperation from the government, community, business actors, academics, and media,” he stated at a press conference regarding the opening ceremony of the 7th Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) in Badung district, Bali province, on Wednesday.

The collaboration is being implemented at the community level through various programs, such as the Disaster Preparedness Team and the Disaster Resilient Village, he added.

"Indonesia has a lot of local wisdoms regarding disaster mitigation. For instance, Bali province, as the host of the 7th Session of the GPDRR, has the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, or the balance of humans’ relationship with their God, other humans, and nature," he remarked.

The implementation of the international forum can assist socioeconomic recovery in Indonesia and increase the awareness of citizens regarding the importance of disaster risk reduction.

"Hence, through the forum, Indonesia encourages world leaders to cooperate in overcoming various global challenges, such as climate change and pandemics," the coordinating minister said.

The 7th Session of the GPDRR will be attended by 8,050 delegates from 193 countries. At least 4,821 delegates will attend in person, while 3,229 delegates will join the forum virtually.

Furthermore, to sustain the legacy of the implementation of the international forum, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture will strive to encourage the public to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle.

In addition, from 2022 to 2023, the ministry will plant 10 million trees in 34 provinces across Indonesia in collaboration with other ministries, agencies, local governments, students, academics, business players, media activists, as well as communities.
