This includes a Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) with a total capacity of 28.9 megawatts (MW) in Biak and Merauke
Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - State-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) has informed that it has completed 11 large-scale electricity infrastructure projects in Papua, West Papua, and Maluku during the pandemic.

The completed projects include a 150-kV (kilovolt) high voltage air transmission line (SUTT) spanning 60.7 circuit kilometers (kms) and a substation (GI) with a capacity of 420 megavolt ampere (MVA), general manager of PLN Maluku and Papua Main Development Unit, Sukahar, said in a press release sent to ANTARA here on Monday.

"This includes a Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) with a total capacity of 28.9 megawatts (MW) in Biak and Merauke," he said.

According to Sukahar, the high voltage transmission network in Mimika is the second one to be installed in Papua province after the laying of similar networks in Jayapura.

"SUTT construction has a portion of 42.8 percent with a domestic component level (TKDN)," he disclosed.

The TKDN requirement should not be less than 40 percent so the use of domestic products in the SUTT project is aimed at boosting domestic industry and national economic growth, he explained.

“So, the construction of this SUTT is very important because if the power evacuation is carried out through the Medium Voltage Air Line (SUTM), there will be a significant reduction in electrical power, making it inefficient and economically detrimental," he said.

The construction of the 51.2-circuit km SUTT is targeted to be completed by the end of 2022, with the next stage being the provision of free space for transmission and cable pulling, he added.

"Previously, we successfully carried out the loading test at the Timika substation at the end of last year, and now the substation is ready to receive voltage from SUTT continuously," he informed.
