"We raise four issues in the P20 as a form of the parliament's contribution to a safer and more prosperous world," Zon noted in his opening remarks of the "P20 Preliminary Discussion: Towards the 8th G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit" held online, Wednesday.
He elaborated that four issues raised by the DPR during the P20 forum are sustainable development and a green economy; an inclusive and strong economy to face the latest challenges of the food, energy, and stagnation crisis; effective parliament and dynamic democracy; and gender equality and women's empowerment.
"We need to be ready to face the food and hunger crises because these are linked to climate change, rising unemployment, inequality, and environmental crises," he stressed.
Since Indonesia was elected as chairman of the G20 on October 31, 2021, the challenge faced was whether it can optimize its position for a better world in the midst of the post-COVID-19 recovery scenario and the Russia-Ukraine war crisis.
He affirmed that various crises in the world cannot be overcome if global security is not conducive owing to the Russia-Ukrainian war that has had an impact on increasing commodity prices. Moreover, a food crisis is looming, stock markets are shaken, economic growth is slowing down, and job opportunities are limited.
"Therefore, the G20 must adapt quickly and precisely and needs accommodative breakthroughs in responding to global challenges," he affirmed.
Zon assessed that all elements of the Indonesian nation, such as the government, parliament, mass media, business world, and society, must have a deep awareness of Indonesia's leadership in the G20.
G20 offers a valuable momentum for Indonesia, as a great nation, because it has modalities, such as the fourth-largest population, growing democracy, third-largest democratic participation, and leadership in the ASEAN, according to the Gerindra Party politician.
"Indonesia's leadership in the G20 not only shows our global capacity but is a noble reflection of the country's Constitution, specifically participating in implementing world order based on freedom, eternal peace, and social justice," he stated during the meeting also attended by Deputy Head of BSKAP, Mardani Ali Sera.
