Magetan (ANTARA) - House Speaker Puan Maharani provided assistance for toddlers suffering from stunting, people with disabilities, and the elderly during a visit to Karangrejo Village, Karangrejo Sub-district, Magetan District, East Java, on Thursday.

She was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, and the head of Magetan District, Suprawoto. Her entourage also included the deputy head of Magetan District, chairman of the Regional House of Representatives, secretary of regional secretary, and leaders of related agencies.

Maharani visited two locations in the village: the Social Service Institution for the Elderly and the Karangrejo State Special School.

"I came to (hear) aspirations, provide assistance, see how the situation is, and I give my full attention to stunting. Stunting is the one thing that we must eradicate immediately. The issue is (to make sure that the) next generation is well-nourished and can (grow as) young people who will be able to pursue (a better) future for the nation," she said.

She urged the public, particularly pregnant women, to participate in efforts to reduce stunting in Indonesia, especially in Magetan.

"During pregnancy, the mother must maintain nutritional intake and must (consume) vitamins so that the baby born grows healthy," she said.

She lauded the head of Magetan District and his staff who have worked hard to address stunting in the area.

The aid she provided included nutritious food packages for families with stunted babies.

During the visit, Maharani and Effendy also admired splashed batik fabric made by people with disabilities from Nguntoronadi Subdistrict, Magetan District.
