We believe that tourism villages will be the winner in the pandemic in the tourism sector
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno is convinced that tourism villages would become more popular after the COVID-19 pandemic following a shift in the tourists' travel preferences.

"We believe that tourism villages will be the winner in the pandemic in the tourism sector," Uno noted in an official statement on Tuesday.

In the post-COVID-19 period, tourists will prefer personalised, customised, localised, and smaller tourism experiences and attractions, he remarked while pointing to an increase in visits to tourism villages in 2021.

The minister emphasized that the development of tourism villages also hinged on local homestays that have a huge impact on providing a satisfactory travel experience for tourists. Cleanliness and comfort facilities are priorities that homestay owners must ensure, the minister added.

Relevant parties, including locals in respective tourism villages, must play their role to advance tourism villages, including by maintaining cleanliness and environmental conditions, Uno stated.

He then spoke of the ministry having collaborated with the private sector to advance clean, healthy, safe, and sustainable tourism villages.

"We laud the roles played by the private sector through this strategic collaboration to support the development of tourism villages in terms of the health and cleanliness aspects that will be consistent with the needs of tourism villages to ensure that the tourism sector will recover and thrive," Uno remarked.

In accord with the minister, the ministry's Deputy of Industry and Investment Department, Henky Hotma Parlindungan Manurung, also lauded the private sector's contribution to realising clean, healthy, safe, and sustainable tourism villages.

He is upbeat that the collaboration would increase the cleanliness of every homestay in tourism villages and set a new standard for homestay cleanliness and comfort.

"A developed tourism village will be followed by the potential increase of economic income for local homestay owners and residents in the tourism village," Manurung remarked.
