Mataram, NTB (ANTARA) - The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police has emphasized that the monitoring of COVID-19 health protocols will remain a priority in securing the implementation of the Samota Motocross Grand Prix (MXGP) on Sumbawa Island.

“It must be noted that the event is being implemented in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Deputy Chief of the regional police Brigadier General Ruslan Aspan emphasized in his remarks at the 2022 Samota MXGP security personnel gathering in Sumbawa district, NTB province, on Wednesday.

The success of the security measures will not only be assessed by the safe and smooth implementation of the race, but also people’s compliance with the health protocols, he added.

Hence, he ensured that all personnel have understood and prepared for their respective security duties.

Through careful preparation, it is expected that all personnel will be able to cooperate as well as remain professional and humane in performing their duties, he said.

"Let’s provide the best service to the community (as well as) strengthen solidarity and synergy to succeed in the task," he added.

The racing event will be secured by personnel from the military, police, public order security agency (Satpol-PP), National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Transportation Office, as well as the government health team.

Earlier, 2,196 personnel were prepared to secure the event. Now, the number of personnel deployed for the event has been reduced to 1,359.

Nevertheless, Aspan said that the security measures would still be carried out according to the plan for a week until June 28, 2022.

The security measures will be applied to all activities, starting from the arrival of logistics, crew, and riders; the implementation of the race; as well as the return of all logistics, crew, and riders.

The 2022 Samota MXGP security personnel gathering was held outside the Sumbawa district head’s office to carry out a final check of security preparations.

The race will be held from June 24–26 in Samota, Sumbawa district, NTB province, on a 1.8-kilometer circuit with 18 turns and 11 obstacles.
