After it is distributed, the workers immediately administer them and the goal is to vaccinate all targets before Eid al-Adha.
Palangka Raya, C Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Central Kalimantan received a total of 2,700 doses of the FMD vaccine for the first-phase vaccine allocation from the central government for infected regions to thwart transmission of the disease.

"One of the locations identified to have FMD cases is Palangka Raya as of today. There are also cases in Sukamara, West Kotawaringin, and East Kotawaringin," Banjarbaru Veterinary Center Head Putut Eko Wibowo remarked.

After the premiere FMD vaccination conducted in one of the farms here on Friday, he noted that in accordance with the requirement, the vaccines are given to healthy livestock in infected regions.

FMD vaccination is planned to be conducted thrice, so a marker is given to vaccinated livestock.

Livestock within a radius of up to 10 km from the infected region is targeted for vaccination.

A total of 100 doses of vaccines should be administered within a day, as the batch of vaccines should be emptied within that day of being opened.

"Hence, our office seeks good mapping because the implementation of the vaccination should really be well-planned," Wibowo explained.

Currently, in accordance with the instruction, the vaccination target encompasses cows, goats, and buffaloes, he noted.

For the second phase of the vaccine distribution, the number of vaccines is estimated to be twice the number in the first phase.

Central Kalimantan Crop, Horticulture, and Farming (TPHP) Office Head Riza Rahmadi noted that the vaccine quota division for each region will be adjusted in accordance with the needs and in a proportional manner.

"After it is distributed, the workers immediately administer them, and the goal is to vaccinate all targets before Eid al-Adha," he noted.

"Let us hope that the FMD vaccine from the central government continues to come in," he remarked.

In order to support the success of the vaccination, the Central Kalimantan provincial government had already readied the requisite facilities and infrastructure.

The facilities readied include field workers comprising 55 medical veterinarians, 94 paramedic veterinarians, 105 inseminators, and 362 non-medical personnel.

Moreover, Rahmadi spoke of his office having already suggested to the central authority to provide vaccine doses in accordance with the FMD-vulnerable animal population across Central Kalimantan, which stood at 299,612.

"These FMD-vulnerable animals, comprise goats, buffalo, cows, and others. We have already suggested it. Let us hope that everyone would receive the vaccine," he remarked.
