Jakarta (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan inspected several stores selling affordable bulk cooking oil packages at the Kramat Jati Market, East Jakarta.

The bulk cooking oil stocks, provided through cooperation between state-owned food company ID Food and Jakarta province-owned market operator PD Pasar Jaya, are placed in large containers in markets that can be accessed by merchants and customers.

"I have visited (several) traditional markets in West Java and Jakarta. At the markets, cooking oil was sold at Rp14 thousand (US$0.93), and the product is available. If the cooking oil is sold in kilograms, the price for each will be Rp15.5 thousand (US$1.03)," Hasan noted in his statement received here on Saturday.

The minister remarked that ensuring the availability of cooking oil stocks will allow residents to easily procure the cooking oil they need.

"There will be a large container in markets from which anyone can come and get (the cooking oil)," the minister revealed.

During his inspection, Hasan visited several grocery stalls at the Kramat Jati Market that includes the Japang Store and Famili Rice Store.

Hasan made assurance that following his inspection, cooking oil stocks at Kramat Jati Market were available and under control.

"At (Kramat Jati Market), almost every store sells the Rp14 thousand-priced (cooking oil)," he remarked.

The Trade Ministry had earlier issued Regulation No. 33 of 2022 that regulates affordable cooking oil programs to stabilize cooking oil prices for the public. The regulation pegged the cooking oil price at Rp14 thousand per liter, or Rp15.5 thousand per kilogram.

In addition, Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan confirmed that the government will start disseminating information on the use of the COVID-19 contact tracing mobile application PeduliLindungi as a purchase requirement for bulk cooking oil on June 27.

"The period to disseminate information will start on June 27 and will last for the next two weeks. After the period to raise awareness is over, the people must use the PeduliLindungi application or show their social identity number (NIK) to be able to purchase bulk cooking oil with the highest retail price," Pandjaitan noted through a statement on Friday.

He later remarked that the purchase of bulk cooking oil at the consumer level will be limited to a maximum of 10 kg or liters for one NIK per day, at a price of Rp14 thousand per liter or Rp15,500 per kilogram.
