"State civil apparatus plays an important role in digital transformation in the country. Thus, it is important to offer training on digital literacy," the director of informatics empowerment at the Communication and Information Technology Ministry, Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, noted in a written statement received here on Saturday.
The Communication and Information Technology Ministry collaborated with the Home Affairs Ministry to conduct a digital literacy training for trainers, targeting state civil apparatus in the government sector.
Pudjianto said that the event had opened up minds and highlighted the importance of digital literacy.
"Just like reading, writing, and arithmetic when we were young, digital literacy cannot be separated from our current lives," he explained.
This training encouraged state civil servants to know and adopt digital technology as well as to become trainers to spread digital literacy skills in the government sector as a means to contribute to the goal of having a total of 50 million digital literate people by 2024.
According to the National Digital Literacy Index Survey conducted by the Communication and Informatics Ministry and the Katadata Insight Center in 2021, Indonesia's digital literacy skills were still in the "moderate" category, scoring 3.49 out of 5.00.
Pudjianto believes that state civil servants had the potential to play an important part in promoting digital transformation to increase the National Digital Literacy Index.
The ministry worked with various ministries and institutions, both at the central and regional scopes, in order to develop the state civil servants' skills regarding digital technology and its developments that entail.
The head of the fourth center for the development of functional and technical competencies of human resources development at the Home Affairs Ministry, Dian Andy Permana, lauded the ministry's initiative to collaborate with the Home Affairs Ministry, particularly in increasing digital literacy skills.
The training is one of the series of activities in the 'A More Digitally Literate Indonesia' (Indonesia Makin Cakap Digital) Program initiated by the Communication and Information Technology Ministry. The program was implemented in several regions and aims to get some 50 million people to develop digital literacy abilities by 2024.
