Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is targeting to complete as many as 508 public service malls (MPPs) by 2024 to ensure easy, quick, cheap, and transparent public services, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has said.

He delivered the statement during the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the acceleration of the implementation of public service malls on Tuesday.

"The public service mall is a kind of government service to the community that is under one roof so that the service can run quickly, easily, and cheaply," he said.

The public service mall is intended to prevent illegal fees and others. With the public service mall, public services can be carried out properly, he said at the Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform in Jakarta.

A total of 57 public service malls have been established as of June 2022. In addition, the implementation of MPPs is currently still centered on the island of Java with 34, or 60 percent of the 57 MPPs, located there.

"Even though our target in 2024 must be 100 percent. Therefore, there is an acceleration step to pursue from 59 to 508 MPPs to encourage each regional government and ministry to have the same commitment to accelerating MPPs. This MPP shows the government's presence in order to provide public services," Amin said.

Commitment key

According to Amin, the commitment of each regional head and ministry will be key to accelerating the establishment of MPPs.

"Of course, (there is) a budget problem, so we ask that this budget also becomes a priority. I think there are no things that hinder us. Therefore, we believe that in 2024, it will be finished," the Vice President said.

People must have access to practical and simple administrative services, he added.

"Processing birth certificates, basic health services, education, taxes, and death certificates must be accessible to the public in a practical and simple way," the Vice President said.

The push for MPP development is aimed at improving the quality of public services and increasing investment in local areas, he added.

"The government is fully responsible for providing quality public services to citizens, from birth to death. Management of birth certificates, basic health services, education, taxes, to death certificates must be accessible to the public in a practical and simple manner," he reiterated.

The Vice President also praised regions that are seeking to prepare MPPs or those who already have MPPs.

"I appreciate the regional heads who have organized the MPPs as well as those who are preparing the MPPs in their regions," he said.
