To realize an inclusive social assurance and ensuring that rights of social welfare for persons with disabilities can be fulfilled, the government is committed to expanding social assurance coverage and benefits for persons with disabilitiesJakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Human Development and Cultural Affairs Minister Muhadjir Effendy reaffirmed the government's commitment to expanding social assurance coverage and benefits for people with disabilities.
"To realize an inclusive social assurance and ensuring that rights of social welfare for persons with disabilities can be fulfilled, the government is committed to expanding social assurance coverage and benefits for persons with disabilities," Effendy stated at the UNESCO MOST (Management of Social Transformation programme) conference observed by online means here, Wednesday.
The minister remarked that social assurance is one of the rights that can boost the welfare of people with disabilities.

Social assurance encompasses basic needs to ensure social functions of persons with disabilities through national healthcare and employment social insurances, as well as social aids, he stated.
The coordinating minister remarked that social assurance for disabled people should be optimized, primarily to ensure the fulfilment of special needs of such people to develop inclusive social protection.
Apart from expanding social assurance for the disabled, social empowerment for people with disabilities remains a strategic issue for the country, he noted.
Social empowerment for the disabled community must at least facilitate efforts made by people with disabilities to boost their potential and grant greater access to them, Effendy remarked.

He expressed hope that social assurance would bolster the presence of persons with disabilities through the development of a favorable climate and personal potential to facilitate their growth as resilient and independent people.
Meanwhile, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is committed to enhancing the institution's ecosystem for research on inclusive policies on the rights and roles of the disabled community in development.
"Inter-sectional approach disabilities research to achieve equal participation for persons with disabilities should be able to be translated into evidence- and scientific-based policies," BRIN Head Laksana Tri Handoko stated at the same event.
Handoko noted that accountable disability research and data and information management is the foundation for achieving inclusive and equitable policies, programs, and services for the disabled community in Indonesia.
