We need to prepare to meet the demand for national digital human resources with digital skills, which are needed today and in the futureJakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate has encouraged digital talents to improve digital skills, including the artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing (ABC) skill.
"We need to prepare to meet the demand for national digital human resources with digital skills, which are needed today and in the future," the minister stated during the 64th MNC Forum webinar, as quoted from a press release on Saturday.
ABC digital skills were also required to keep up with technological developments, such as the metaverse, so that Indonesia could also partake in innovation and technology in its own country and not merely remain a consumer.
"With these various opportunities, it is only right for us to prepare human resources or digital talents with the skills required nowadays, which are sought after by the industry, at least for the time being," the minister stated.
Digital skills served as a key to tap into the national market potential of digital economy. Currently, the digital economy was one of the backbones of the economy, acting as the main tool in economic recovery after the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
National digital economy value had also increased consistently over years. In 2020, it was capped at Rp675 trillion, while in 2021, it increased to Rp1,005 trillion.
"This growth is projected to reach Rp2,096 trillion in 2025, with a compound annual growth rate of 20 percent. It will even reach Rp4,531 trillion in 2030, equivalent to 42 percent of the ASEAN digital economy. This value is predicted to be twice as large as the Southeast Asia digital economy by 2030," he expounded.
The digital economy sector also showed an increasing contribution to the national gross domestic product, which was capped at 2.9 percent in 2019 and four percent in 2020. It was projected to continue to jump up to 18.8 percent in 2030.
These various opportunities should be seized by preparing digital talents with the skills required in the current digital era.
Thus, the ministry offered a digital literacy program, with the aim of supporting the development of Indonesia's digital economy. Moreover, the ministry has built information and communication technology infrastructure.
