We are verifying the validation of school sanitation so that sanitarian officers can check for shortages (of sanitation facilities) in schools
Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in Papua has urged the Jayapura city government to pay more attention to sanitation facilities in Port Numbay schools.

UNICEF Papua-West Papua sanitation staff Reza Hendrawan told ANTARA here on Saturday that his office, together with the Jayapura Health and Education Office, has inspected sanitation facilities in schools.

"We are verifying the validation of school sanitation so that sanitarian officers can check for shortages (of sanitation facilities) in schools," Hendrawan said.

As per the Basic Educational Data of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, several schools have provided data on sanitary conditions, but not all are in accordance with the situation on the field, Hendrawan said.

"For example, whether the schools have access to water, have separate latrines, and other sanitation facilities. To that end, we are trying to validate the existing shortages," he added.

He explained that if the data is improved, the local government's sanitation program can be made more effective and efficient.

"We also encourage the central government, in this case, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology and the Ministry of Health, to integrate data on sanitation," Hendrawan said.

Data integration is needed because the Health Ministry also has the same program for schools, namely the School Health Inspection (IKS), he added.

"That way, the data quality will be better; based on the President's directive, data is an asset that must be owned and the government has a commitment to One Data (policy). Hence, we'd like to realize One Data where the sanitation (data) of the ministries of health and education can be the same," he added.
