The leader of the Khilafatul Muslimin group in Cianjur, Afud Mahfudin, affirmed that he and 15 other members of the group will remain loyal to Indonesia, its national ideology Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and the “unity in diversity” commitment.
"We are committed to respecting diversity and religious tolerance and preventing all actions opposing Pancasila. We also ask members to observe (this commitment) and participate to ward off radicalism that can disrupt national security," he said while pleading his loyalty to the nation in front of local officials on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Cianjur Police chief, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Doni Hermawan, and helping police in suppressing radicalism in the region.
"Their declaration was made according to their own conscience, and no one coerced them (to do so). The dozens of Khilafatul Muslimin members in Cianjur were mostly active only in congregational Quran recitation activities in homes," he informed.
He expressed the hope that the declaration would encourage other residents harboring radical thoughts to embrace Pancasila.
"We also ask members of Khilafatul Muslimin to participate in warding off radicalism that can harm national ideology Pancasila," Hermawan said.
Meanwhile, secretary of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) office in Cianjur, Saeful Ulum, said that MUI is continuing to provide assistance to deviated groups, including radical cliques, who could hurt the Pancasila ideology and the Islamic religion, to prevent public misunderstanding.
