"The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, together with other ministries and institutions as well as community groups, is currently developing a program that aims to encourage the positive use of social media," the ministry's deputy for coordination of mental revolution, cultural advancement, and sports achievement, Didik Suhardi, said when contacted by ANTARA here on Thursday.
One of the targets of the National Movement for Mental Revolution is to encourage the positive use of social media to positively impact the formation of the younger generation's character, he explained.
"Therefore, it is expected that the nation's younger generation can utilize the digital technology development well and be protected from the spread of disinformation or hoaxes, hate speech, discrimination, and fraud that may occur in digital spaces," he said.
One of the efforts that will be made is intensifying public campaigns, dissemination, and education on the importance of using social media positively as a source of information and a source of knowledge that can enrich people’s insight.
"This campaign aims to change people's mindsets regarding the importance of using social media positively. In essence, the government wants to invite people to use social media wisely," he remarked.
According to him, the targets of the strategic program include many parties, ranging from the community, mass media, civil servants, students, the business world, and other relevant parties.
"The spirit of this program is the spirit of mutual cooperation to share knowledge, energy, and budget so that in the future, our social media will become a fun place for learning," he said.
The coordinating ministry is also encouraging people to filter information on social media to obtain positive impacts, in line with the spirit of the National Movement for Mental Revolution, Suhardi added.
