On behalf of myself and the management of BPJAMSOSTEK, I express my deep sorrow for the passing away of Sonny Sofianto
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Workers Social Security Agency (BPJAMSOSTEK) offered a compensation of Rp4.4 billion, or around US$293.5 thousand, to the heir of a worker, who died in a work accident while working from home (WFH).

The compensation was paid to the heir of Sonny Sofianto, a general manager of the Indonesian convenience store chain, who was an active participant of BPJAMSOSTEK since 1993, according to a release received here on Friday.

Sofianto's heir was entitled to work accident security (JKK) benefits totaling Rp4.4 billion.

The benefits comprised death compensation due to the work accident amounting to 48 times Sofianto's reported wages, funeral expenses, periodic compensation for 24 months paid in lump sum, as well as scholarships for two children, with a maximum value of Rp174 million.

Sofianto's old-age insurance program (JHT) balance was also paid, and pension security (JP) benefits are given periodically every month.

BPJAMSOSTEK Director of Service Roswita Nilakurnia, who handed over the compensation directly to the heir, stated that no matter how much benefit was provided, it could not replace the presence of a loved one.

However, Nilakurnia believes that the compensation can ease the family's grief and be useful for continuing their lives.

"On behalf of myself and the management of BPJAMSOSTEK, I express my deep sorrow for the passing away of Sonny Sofianto," Nilakurnia stated.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic struck, BPJAMSOSTEK has expanded the scope of protection for workers, including those working from home.

In 2021, BPJAMSOSTEK has simplified the claiming procedure for JHT, increasing the average success rate of JHT claims, from 55.05 percent in January 2021 to 95.01 percent in December 2021. In the first semester of 2022, the success rate had reached 99.51 percent.

BPJAMSOSTEK also launched the Jamsostek Mobile (JMO) application that cut the JHT claim disbursement time, from 10-15 days to only 10-15 minutes.
