Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said he is glad that youth from suburban regions are gathering and socializing at Dukuh Atas, the transit point of Dukuh Atas MRT station and Sudirman railway station, Central Jakarta.

The suburban youth are popularly known to have originated from "Sudirman, Citayam, Bojonggede, Depok” regions, abbreviated as SCBD—a play on the prestigious Sudirman Central Business District that hosts the offices of major national and international companies.

"We are honestly happy and thankful that our children and brothers from Citayam socialize in Dukuh Atas after traveling there by train. It is one recreational space for them while visiting Jakarta; it is good," Patria remarked here on Monday.

The mingling of residents in Dukuh Atas region demonstrates that Jakarta is an attractive tourist destination for residents of Jakarta's buffer regions, namely Bogor, Tangerang, Depok, and Bekasi, the deputy governor said.

"It demonstrates that Jakarta indeed is attractive as a tourism spot for residents," he stated.

He also commended the suburban youth who are confident about wearing domestic-made clothes while mingling with their peers at the transit point.

Patria then reminded residents who want to spend their time in Dukuh Atas to maintain cleanliness and order.

"As now is the school holiday period, we welcome everyone that visits and spends their time in Jakarta. Let us also maintain cleanliness and tidiness (at public facilities)," he remarked.

Earlier, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan highlighted the phenomenon of suburban youth mingling at Jenderal Sudirman Road, which is also the location of major domestic and international companies' offices, as a democratization of public roads.

Road democratization means that Jenderal Sudirman Road no longer belongs exclusively to middle-upper class residents as the space now belongs to all residents, no matter their economic status, he said.
