Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The XX Research and Innovation Scientific Youth Week (PIRN) supports the birth of young scientists with quality research in Indonesia, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim stated.

"I believe the materials, such as enrichment, research methods, field research training, and laboratory research, presented in this activity will encourage the birth of young scientists and researchers, who are able to produce quality studies," he noted at the opening of the XX PIRN at the West Nusa Tenggara Governor's Office here on Monday.

PIRN is a scientific activity that is oriented towards research in the fields of social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering for junior high and high school students as well as supervising teachers.

Makarim expressed optimism that the XX PIRN participants would offer smart and innovative ways to develop Indonesia's rich natural and cultural potential to support the green and blue economy.

He motivated the participants to make the most of the XX PIRN to increase their insights and knowledge as well as to experiment and innovate.

The minister called to improve the quality of research following the quantity of the country's research. In 2021, Indonesia was ranked 20th out of the 232 countries, with total publications almost reaching 50 thousand articles.

"We cannot just speak about the quantity, as we have to consider the quality of the research, starting from the methodology used, how the data was analyzed and up to the presentation of research findings," he stated.

In addition, he highlighted that the other important aspect to be taken into account is the impact of the research, so that it can support the development of science or produce innovations that can offer benefits to several people.
