Jakarta (ANTARA) - At least 422,401 heads of cattle nationwide have received the FMD vaccine as of Tuesday, according to data from the Indonesian Government's Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Handling Task Force.

The data received here on Tuesday showed that the FMD outbreak has affected 246 districts and cities in 22 Indonesian provinces so far, and most of the infected farm animals are cattle.

The number of animals infected with FMD has touched 350,457 heads. Of the number, 112,299 animals have recovered, 230,719 are still sick, and 2,095 have died.

The infected animals comprise 339,161 cattle, 7,769 buffaloes, 1,166 sheep, 2,314 goats, and 47 pigs. Meanwhile, the recovered farm animals comprise 107,947 cattle, 3,265 buffaloes, 510 sheep, and 1,277 goats.

Meanwhile, the animals that are still sick comprise 226,616 cattle, 4,438 buffaloes, 641 sheep, 977 goats, and 47 pigs.

So far, 2,095 animals have died: 2,027 cattle, 52 buffaloes, eight sheep, and eight goats.

Several provinces have been categorized as FMD red zones because 50 percent districts and cities in each of the provinces have been affected by the disease. They include Aceh, West Sumatra, Riau, North Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, Bali, and West Kalimantan.

To curb the spread of FMD in Indonesia, the Ministry of Agriculture rolled out a vaccination program for livestock from Sidoarjo district, East Java, on June 14, 2022.

Vaccine doses are being prioritized for healthy animals that are at high risk of infection, such as animals at livestock breeding centers, community-owned dairy farms, dairy cooperatives, and beef cattle farms.

Earlier, coordinator for the FMD Task Force's expert team, Wiku Adisasmito, had said that the task force had formulated rules for livestock movement amid the outbreak.

At a press conference on July 7, he said that before traveling, animals and their products must be quarantined for 14 days, and if the animals show symptoms, they must be tested.
