Bekasi, W Java (ANTARA) - The Bekasi City Metropolitan Police are investigating the driver of a fuel tanker truck that collided with several vehicles on Transyogi Alternative Street Cibubur, Bekasi city, on Monday afternoon (July 18, 2022), killing 10 persons.

"Right now, we are focusing the investigation on the driver," head of the traffic police unit of Bekasi City Metropolitan Police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Agung Pitoyo Putro, informed in Bekasi, West Java, on Tuesday.

The accident involved the fuel tanker truck, which belonged to PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, and a number of four- and two-wheeled vehicles. Ten persons were killed in the accident and several were left injured.

Putro confirmed that the tanker truck driver was in good health and based on a urine test, had tested negative for drugs.

"The urine test showed a negative result for drugs. Next, we will check on the truck’s conductor as soon as possible," he added.

Officers have not disclosed information regarding the results of the driver's investigation to the public since the probe into the July 18 accident is still on.

"We have not been able to publish it since it is still in the process of being examined, so please be patient to wait for further developments," Putro said.

According to him, a number of factors could have caused the accident, such as human error, road construction, and the physical condition of the vehicle.

"Later, when we are able to gather the information, we will inform it. It could have been caused by human error, road construction, or the trouble from the vehicle," he said.

Earlier, the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) commenced an investigation into the accident. KNKT will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the accident and analyze all aspects through holistic means by focusing on the accident site first and then other aspects, based on findings in the field.
