Labuan Bajo, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Wae Mese II Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) to support the infrastructure of Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, as a National Tourism Strategic Zone (KSPN).

"The designation of Labuan Bajo must be integrated, from water and electricity, so that the existing needs can be met," the head of state remarked while inaugurating the Wae Mese II SPAM in Labuan Bajo, on Friday.

Water requirement is essential in the super priority tourism areas, the president emphasized as he witnessed a significant increase in investment in accommodations in Labuan Bajo.

Hence, Jokowi said the government provided infrastructure support at Wae Mese II to facilitate the increase in tourist visits.

The Wae Mese II SPAM was built with an investment value of Rp159 billion.

Regional-owned drinking water supply company Wae Mbeliling director, Aurelius Hubertus Endo, explained that Wae Mese II has a nameplate capacity and production capacity of 100 liters per second, with distribution to Labuan Bajo City.

According to Endo, Wae Mese II SPAM will facilitate the drinking water requirements for the residents of as many as eight thousand houses, or equivalent to 40 thousand people, in Labuan Bajo City.

Endo remarked that the Wae Mese water distribution was divided into 80 percent for residents, who have become the company's customers, and another 20 percent to support the KSPN infrastructure.

Furthermore, he said the average water usage during low occupancies in hotels was 500 cubic meters per month.

"The (frequency of the) water distribution system (after) the presence of SPAM is daily. Our goal is 24 hours," he stated.

Endo said his side has conducted surveys in several areas, so that expansion can be conducted in 2023.
