Jakarta (ANTARA) - At least 55,275,438 Indonesians have received the third or booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of July 27, 2022, the Task Force for COVID-19 Handling has reported.

The country added 333,495 booster recipients in a single day on Wednesday, the task force said in a statement released the same day.

The task force's data showed that 26.54 percent of the 208,265,720 targeted recipients have been administered the booster shot so far.

Meanwhile, the authorities are administering second doses to 54,087 people per day, bringing their total number to 169,936,472, or 81.6 percent of the target.

The recipients of the first dose increased by 65,063 on Wednesday, bringing the tally to 202,333,791, or 97.15 percent of the target.

Meanwhile, the task force logged 6,438 fresh COVID-19 cases, 3,825 recoveries, and 11 deaths across Indonesia in the 24 hours ended on Wednesday.

Further, the number of active cases rose by 2,602 to reach 46,024.

Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, said the government is expecting to provide the booster shot to at least 70 percent of the targeted recipients.

"I see in all over the world, there is no country that can achieve 100 percent (of the target). So honestly, it's impossible to achieve. The important thing is that above 70 percent is good," he remarked.

In the past 15 months, as many as 205 million Indonesians have received the COVID-19 vaccine, including the first, second, and booster doses, with 410 million doses administered so far.

Minister Sadikin urged Indonesians to get the booster dose for better protection against COVID-19.
