Purwokerto, C Java (ANTARA) - State-run oil firm PT Pertamina is taking measures to handle a fuel leak reported at the Cilacap-Bandung (CB) 3 pipeline project site, spokesperson for PT Pertamina Patra Niaga-Central Java, Brasto Galih Nugroho, said.



The fuel leak was reported in Lengkong hamlet, Jeruklegi Kulon village, Cilacap district, he informed in a statement on Wednesday.



"The incident occurred during the Cilacap-Bandung (CB) 3 fuel pipeline project work on Wednesday morning," he added.



The company is currently investigating the cause of the leak and focusing on overcoming and mitigating its impact in collaboration with related parties.



Nugroho assured that fuel supply will remain adequate, and the company will get fuel supply from other terminals, if necessary.



"(This was) a new pipe job but hit the old pipe," he said.



PT Hutama Karya’s (Persero’s) community development officer for the CB3 fuel pipe project, Agung Suroyo, said his team identified the location of fuel seepage quickly after he received the report on the incident.



According to Suroyo, the seepage points have been found and are in the process of being repaired.



"God willing, today if the leakage can be fixed, we will inform you the updates," he said.

He refused to provide further details regarding the cause of the leak, saying the leaked fuel was reportedly sourced from the old pipeline.



The new CB3 pipeline project is meant to distribute diesel fuel, but the fuel that leaked was not diesel.



"Probably it came from the CB1 or CB2 pipelines," he added.



Meanwhile, head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cilacap, Wijonardi, said the fuel leakage in Jambu River in the village was first discovered by residents at 4.30 a.m. Western Standard Time (WIB) on Wednesday.

"We (BPBD) will help to calm the residents. Everything has been handled professionally," he added.



In video footage circulated via WhatsApp, a number of residents of Lengkong hamlet could be seen cleaning up the fuel from Jambu River with the help of buckets.
