Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Law and Human Rights Ministry will strengthen collaboration with stakeholders to monitor foreign nationals in North Jakarta.

The collaboration could support national economic growth, head of the Jakarta Area Office of the ministry, Ibnu Chuldun, said in a coordination meeting of monitoring team for foreigners in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Thursday.

This could be achieved by, for instance, creating new economic opportunities for people working in the tourism sector, in accordance with the Law and Human Rights Ministry's policy regarding guarantees for foreign nationals.

According to the policy, one citizen can provide guarantees to 10 foreign nationals, and foreign nationals with guarantors can stay in the country for 60 days.

"We have to support it. Thus, among the mechanisms which we must do is to conduct improvement in the regional foreigners monitoring team, such as in North Jakarta," Chuldun stated.

He said he is grateful that in the past two years, there have been no reports from people living in the area under the purview of the North Jakarta Immigration Office about disturbances or violations caused by foreigners.

"This is thanks to collaboration and synergy built during all these times, right, so strong. From all elements of North Jakarta foreigners monitoring team," Chuldun remarked.

North Jakarta is different compared to other areas, where many immigration violations are still being reported, such as foreigners misusing their permits to stay, he pointed out.

"We commend that, and in the future, we (North Jakarta foreigner nationals’ monitoring team) have a rather difficult task, indeed. Apart from doing continuous (information dissemination), we also have to maintain economic growth stability, particularly in the North Jakarta area," he said.

The coordination meeting involved the North Jakarta Leaders Communication Forum stakeholders, including the state court, police force, the mayor, as well as the heads of sub-districts and villages in the work area of the Immigration Checks of Class I Immigration Office in North Jakarta.

North Jakarta City Secretary Administration Assistant, Iyan Sopian Hadi, lauded the officers who often conduct surveillance of foreigners.

According to Law Number 6 of 2011, the immigration authorities are required to offer administrative services, and also inform about and coordinate all things related to immigration, he said.
