We know the double effect of this nickel is great for the country's interests. Although we are in the condition of giving up some margins, we see that the country must be present to complete the downstreaming in Indonesia
Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-run postal corporation PT Pos Indonesia, through its logistics subsidiary PT Pos Logistik Indonesia has expanded its services to include nickel transportation.

President director of Pos Logistik Indonesia Ardian Cholid said that the decision to enter the transportation of mining products, such as minerals, is part of a plan to expand the company's business in the logistics sector.

"We know the double effect of this nickel is great for the country's interests. Although we are in the condition of giving up some margins, we see that the country must be present to complete the downstreaming in Indonesia," Cholid explained here on Friday.

According to him, as part of Pos Logistik Indonesia’s bouquet of services, nickel will be transported from mines to smelters.

Meanwhile, Pos Indonesia's expansion into nickel transportation started in June 2022, with a contract value of 150 thousand tons per month in Morowali, Central Sulawesi.

Cholid said that if the company has a long-term contract and invests hugely in transportation services, his party will create a dedicated fleet for sea routes specifically for transporting nickel.

According to him, entering into nickel transportation services is Pos Indonesia's step to attract foreign capital owners or investors to build downstream industries in Indonesia.

"The highest (economic) growth is due to foreign direct investment because there is fresh cash money. We need industries to enter Indonesia, if it is just a money market and fiscal, the capital is 'easy to flee' (meaning not sustainable or only short-term)," he explained.

"But if they build a smelter here, they will not easily bring assets out because they are willing to build their industry in Indonesia. This means that there is an added value for Indonesia," he added.

In addition, Pos Indonesia has penetrated into nickel transportation services to support the government's mission of increasing national economic growth through the downstream industry.
