I predict the vulnerable period in Indonesia will last until October 2022Jakarta (ANTARA) - The COVID-19 Handling Task Force reported that the daily rate of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Indonesia increased by 4,425, with the largest contributor nationwide being Jakarta.
The report from the COVID-19 Task Force here on Monday, stated that the number of positive confirmed cases since the pandemic struck Indonesia in March 2020 totalled 6,249,403.
Provinces that contributed to the highest rate of positive cases at the national level were Jakarta, with 2,300 cases; West Java, 774 cases; Banten, 486 cases; East Java, 276 cases; and Central Java, 170 cases.

The number of active cases decreased by 512, thereby bringing the total case count to 49,633. The number of people recovered from COVID-19 increased by 4,919, thereby bringing the total national recovery tally to 6,042,657 people.
The highest recovery count nationally was recorded in Jakarta, with 2,720 people; Banten, 524 people; West Java, 523 people; East Java, 395 people; and Bali, 161 people.
The COVID-19 Handling Task Force also reported the increase in mortality caused by the disease today, with four people from Bali; three each in Jakarta and Central Java; two each from East Java and Riau; and one each from South Sumatra, Lampung, Riau Islands, and Yogyakarta, thereby bringing the total count to 18.
In addition, 4,505 people fell in the suspect category. These results were obtained after testing 107,688 specimens in laboratory networks throughout Indonesia.
The daily specimen positivity rate is 8.6 percent and the daily positivity rate reached 9.75 percent, above the World Health Organization (WHO) standard of five percent.

An epidemiologist from Griffith University, Australia, Dicky Budiman, stated that currently, the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia had entered its fourth wave.
"I predict the vulnerable period in Indonesia will last until October 2022," Budiman noted.
He noted that new variants of COVID-19 had continued to emerge, with the BA.4, BA.5, and BA.275 subvariants currently dominating.
Budiman said Indonesia was still in the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that was estimated to peak in August or September 2022.
"COVID-19 continues to mutate to new variants and reduce the efficacy of vaccines. This condition cannot be overcome only with vaccinations and drugs but requires following health protocols, such as wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining distance," he stated.
