Jakarta (ANTARA) - Inspector General Ferdy Sambo allegedly ordered Second Bhayangkara E to shoot Brigadier J at Sambo’s official residence in Duren Tiga, South Jakarta, and has been named a suspect in the case.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo conveyed the information at the National Police Headquarters, here on Tuesday.

"The special team found that the incident that occurred was the shooting of J (Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabatara), which caused the death of J, which was carried out by E (Second Bhayangkara Richard Eliezer Pudihang Lumiu) on the orders of FS (Sambo, ed.),” the police chief said.

The special team has so far named four suspects in the case: Inspector General Ferdy Sambo, Second Bhayangkara E, Chief Police Brigadier RR, and KM. The four have been charged under Article 340 of the Criminal Code, subsidiary Article 338 in conjunction with Article 55 and Article 56 of the Criminal Code. If convicted, they will face a death sentence or life imprisonment.

Brigadier J died on July 8, 2022, at the official residence of Sambo, the head of the Profession and Security Division of National Police, in Duren Tiga, South Jakarta.

Initially, it was reported that Brigadier J had died during a shootout involving Second Bhayangkara E.

During its investigation, the special team rejected the scenario. Instead, it concluded that Bharada E shot Brigadier J on Sambo’s orders using Brigadier RR's weapon. Meanwhile, Brigadier J's weapon was used by Sambo to fire shots at a wall at the crime scene.

"I repeat, that there was no shooting incident as reported initially," Prabowo said.

The case aroused public suspicion after the victim's family reported strange wounds on Brigadier J's body. The suspicion heightened after the family members were prohibited from opening the coffin and performing traditional rituals, and they were also not granted official funeral ceremonies.

Brigadier J's family reported the case to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police on July 18, alleging premeditated murder. The case was filed under Article 340 of the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Article 338, Article 351 Paragraph 3, and Article 55 and Article 56 of the Criminal Code.
