We want to ensure that more girls are involved and like exact sciences, like numeracy, so that more girls will like this field
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology has encouraged female students to engage in the field of informatics.

"We want to ensure that more girls are involved and like exact sciences, like numeracy, so that more girls will like this field," Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Culture Suharti noted here, Wednesday.

Suharti admitted that despite all Indonesian contestants at the 2022 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) being male, the field of informatics was not just for men.

"It should be echoed that informatics is a field that is not only intended for men but also for women," she explained.

Some 536 participants are recorded in the IOI 2022, the highest number in the history of its implementation. A total of 414 participants from 72 countries competed offline in Yogyakarta, while 122 participants from 18 countries competed online. The IOI aims to identify challenges, build talent, forge international friendships, and introduce informatics to high school students.

Earlier, Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim said that the event connected digital talents from across the world.

Makarim said the competition was the best means to foster and challenge the world's young generation to develop an inclination for informatics and develop it for a better life.
