Jakarta (ANTARA) - All citizens have the right to cast their vote in elections and have a high moral responsibility to choose the best leader, an expert from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has said.

“It is important for citizens to vote, but it doesn't stop there. Citizens have a high moral responsibility when voting, because they are intent on having a leader candidate who really stands for our country, advances our country, understands well the Constitution to educate and prosper the people," Siti Zuhro said during a discussion on Radio Idola Semarang, themed “How so that the euphoria of presidential candidate stipulation does not end up as nothing for voters,” which was accessed here on Wednesday.

Indonesian citizens must not choose leaders who do not have the ability to fight for the country, advance Indonesia, educate citizens, and improve the welfare of the people, she stressed.

Moreover, candidates whose track records include things such as violating ethics and the law must not be elected, she said.

"Moreover, I'm sorry, (if) it turns out that they do have records of ethics, laws violations, such as corruption, they can't be elected. So, it cannot be compromised, in my opinion," she added.

She urged political parties to promote candidate leaders who truly possess various skills or abilities and have a good track record to become good leaders of Indonesia who are capable of educating people and ensuring their prosperity.

Thus, it would be easier for the public to choose the best leader for Indonesia, she said.

“Tell the people that (the candidates) have track records. Political parties, political elites, (get involved in informing them about these) track records so that it can be (taken into consideration and then) selected by the public themselves. So, our rejection is not because of likes and dislikes, but indeed (because) the track record does not meet the qualifications," she added.
