Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi, on Friday, urged television broadcasters to actively participate in realizing the vision of peaceful 2024 General Elections.

"The Communication and Informatics Ministry specifically invited all television stations to play an active role in supporting the campaign of peaceful 2024 General Elections for the sake of realizing a peaceful election while maintaining a safe and healthy digital space," he remarked in Banyuwangi, East Java.

The minister echoed the encouragement during the inauguration of the digital transmitter of state-owned television TVRI in Alasmalang Village.

Setiadi remarked that TVRI, as a public broadcasting institution operating for over six decades, has been playing a crucial role in disseminating important information to the people of Indonesia.

Setiadi affirmed that TVRI should continue to play the role to realize peaceful 2024 General Elections, especially by improving the people's literacy and guiding them to prudently exercise their voting rights during the upcoming elections.

He emphasized the importance of TV stations broadcasting narratives on peaceful elections, saying that broadcasters can help the government protect the people from disinformation usually circulating before and during an election.

"We must stay vigilant against disinformation that frequently emerges on digital media," he remarked.

He then expressed hope that the operation of TVRI's digital transmitter would facilitate the people to access information, including one containing the 2024 peaceful General Elections narratives.

Setiadi also affirmed that his ministry had prepared three narrative themes to be broadcast by TVRI and national radio broadcasting institution RRI.

One of the themes concerns the need for inviting youngsters to actively participate in the upcoming elections by exercising their voting rights.

As for the second theme, the ministry, along with TVRI and RRI, is collaborating with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to promote the campaign against money politics.

Meanwhile, the last theme pertains to the need to remind people that differences in political views should not trigger discord among them, as the Indonesian nation is one family.
