Jakarta (ANTARA) - The dissemination of inclusive narratives is of the essence to prevent the emergence of polarization amid the public in the aftermath of the 2024 General Elections, Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi stated.

"It is necessary to echo inclusive narratives that can embrace all elements of society without discriminating against any backgrounds and groups," he noted in a press release received from his office on Friday (March 15).

The minister made the statement after attending the National Editorial Meeting for Issues and Developments after the 2024 General Elections held at the office of state-run television TVRI, Jakarta, on Thursday (March 14).

The minister affirmed that the circulation of narratives that are exclusive and provocative in nature could lead to fragmentation that, in turn, might threaten the harmony fostered by the heterogeneous nation of Indonesia.

On that note, Setiadi urged the Indonesian mass media to combat such narratives by spreading more inclusive ones that are free from political interests.

"Such a measure is vital to prevent people from believing that the next administration is born from electoral frauds," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Setiadi's Director General of Public Information and Communication, Usman Kansong, stated that the nation is currently witnessing the spread of harmful narratives that contain incomplete information on the elections.

He appealed to the media to ensure that they only issue news that provides comprehensive information and complete statements.

Speaking of the national recapitulation of votes, Kansong assessed that the General Elections Commission (KPU) had complied with applicable regulations.

He said people could conveniently oversee the recapitulation process via YouTube, thereby eliminating the need to come to the KPU office.

"We have learned that the KPU had been recapitulating the votes in a highly transparent manner. Hence, I do not think that the recapitulation is tainted with foul acts," he pointed out.
